Governor Roy Cooper announced July 14, 2020 safety measures to allow in-person academic instruction to resume this fall.
It was another busy week at the General Assembly as both chambers worked towards a possible adjournment by the end of next week.
The General Assembly passed a major piece of legislation dealing with elections and also continued its piecemeal approach to the state budget.
While several bills moved forward this week (mostly small appropriations bills dealing with a single subject), only one major piece of legislation cleared the General Assembly.
The General Assembly returned from the holiday and got back to work on the 2020 Regular Session by addressing revenue forecasting, election legislation, and response to the pandemic.
The General Assembly began it's 2020 Short Session in earnest this week. Lawmakers had previously been in Raleigh the week of April 28th to enact legislation dealing directly COVID-19.
The South Carolina General Assembly adjourned (effectively sine die) and will meet in perfunctory session until May 14, 2020.
The General Assembly met on May 2 to vote on compromise legislation for the state’s initial response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Gov. Cooper signed the COVID-19 relief package into law May 4.
The session has dealt almost exclusively with the State’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. House and Senate leaders are negotiating a final package for the state’s initial response.
